Marcus Trescothick has proved his on-going quality at domestic level since announcing his retirement from international cricket by winning the NatWest PCA Player of the year award for 2009.
The 33-year-old Somerset left-hander fought off competition from England captain Andrew Strauss, ISM stablemate Graham Onions and fellow Durham player Ian Blackwell to land the prestigious award.
He helped Somerset claim third place in the LV County Championship by scoring 1817 runs at an average of 75, scoring eight hundreds, despite announcing his retirement from international cricket due to a stress-related illness over a year ago.
His form this year prompted England to ask him if he would play in the ICC World Twenty20 tournament at the start of the summer, which he declined, while the selectors considered approaching him to feature in the Ashes decider at the Oval.
Trescothick was also named in the PCA Team of the Year alongside Onions and another member of the ISM stable, highly-rated Somerset wicketkeeper-batsman Craig Kieswetter.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan, who retired this year and has now begun work as ISM’s Business Development Manager, was given the England and Wales Cricket Board’s Special Award in recognition of his services to English cricket.
