At Last Something to Smile About

The game was well poised until Andrew Flintoff came back onto bowl and took a fantastic hatrick to finish the game off

What a fantastic end to the West Indies tour it was for Andrew Stauss and his beleaguered team on Friday night in St Lucia.  In what early on looked likely to be a day to forget with rain holding up play, England managed to amass 172 in 29 chaotic overs.  I thought this score always looked a reasonable one with the thought that the wicket was always going to get slower.  ; his figures of five overs 5 for 19, clearly once again made him the hero of the hour and once again he managed to put a smile back on the face of English cricket.

After a dismal winter, England finally got their hands on some silver wear which would have given their confidence a nudge in the right direction to what lies ahead this summer.

I guess all eyes now will turn to the Indian Premier League which starts on the 18th April in Cape Town, with for the first time, English players being allowed to play in the competition.  Andrew Flintoff's team, the Chennai Super Kings play in the first game against the Mumbai Indians; I am sure after a low key first season of media coverage in England it will be a lot different this time with our own players taking part.

For Flintoff in particular, who has just missed five weeks cricket, it looks a perfect opportunity to continue his come back in some warm weather where he will not have to bowl long spells and hopefully, where with the bat he will have to go out and hit the ball, it will give him a chance to get his eye in again.

On a separate note, congratulations to James Anderson who has just been nominated as one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the Year.  This is an accolade that is well recognised within the game and one that shows how far Jimmy has come on again in the last 12 months.  He is now very much part of England's spearhead attack in all three forms of the game, congratulations to him and may his form long continue.
