Eyes on the West Indies and India

Thankfully it looks like Andrew Flintoff has come through rigorous fitness tests, and assuming he wakes up fine this morning, he will be the final piece of the jigsaw for Andrew Strauss' first Test team.

I don't think there will be many surprises when the team is announced this morning. With Ian Bell just fighting off the growing presence of Owais Shah for the number three spot, that leaves the batsmen line up looking like Strauss, Cook, Bell, Pietersen and Collingwood, with Fred to bat six.

In the bowling department, I think there has been more uncertainty into who would join Fred.  Steve Harmison got plenty of overs under his belt and also came out with four wickets in the last game.  Stuart Broad looks like he has been inked in from the day the team arrived in St Kitts, so that probably leaves one quick bowling spot to be decided between James Anderson and a fit again Ryan Sidebottom.

It will be harsh to leave out Jimmy at this point, as he has performed a lot more consistently in Test match cricket over the last 12 months, but I guess the flip side to this is a fit again Ryan Sidebottom gives the selectors something different, that being a left arm swing bowler.  I have a sneaky suspicion for the change of angle and something different getting the nod.

The spin spot is also a very close run thing with Graeme Swann doing fantastically well in India, but I think with Monty having got a bag of wickets in the first warm up game and also having a great record against the West Indies, he may well get the final spot.

It looks a strong team assuming everyone plays something like their best and I can't see us losing either this Test match, or the Series, although the Series may be closer than lots of people think.

On Friday, the 2009 IPL auction takes place in Goa with seven English men entered into the final auction.  There has been a lot of tooing-and-froing over the last few months, but the English lads have finally been allowed to take part in this year's IPL.  It is an exciting time for the seven, let's hope they all get a spot somewhere and learn from the experience of playing in front of packed houses with the best players in the world; it is a mouth watering prospect.

So we will have one eye on the West Indies and one eye on India over the next few days, here's hoping to good English results all round.
