As the biggest money match approaches, England look just a little bit at sixes and sevens, mainly due to the fact that a tummy bug has been doing the rounds within the squad and last night against Trinidad & Tobago it was the eleven fittest men who were on the field. Added to this the wicket that the games are being played on is very slow and uneven, the wicket has probably disrupted the thought processes to England's best eleven and add on top of that a little bit of rustiness due to the team having a couple of months off. I believe this all adds up to an incredibly close game under the sub-standard lights on Saturday night.
It now looks like that England will probably play an extra spinner in the final eleven on Saturday night, thus possibly living out both Sidebottom and Anderson in preference to Graeme Swann. The batting line up looks a lot more solid; in the Trinidad & Tobago game we saw the power once again of Kevin Pietersen when everyone else was struggling a little bit to find the middle of the bat and played some fantastically powerful shots in his cameo innings. Looking from afar it would appear that we need to make the most of the first few overs with the field restrictions and with the depth to our batting line up perhaps we can come out with more guns blazing.
The event has so far failed to catch the imagination here; I think due a lot to the wicket and lights, meaning that the cricket doesn't look as explosive as it sometimes can. The biggest coverage so far seems to have been when Mr Stanford sat amongst the player's ladies. Let's hope that come Saturday night a positive England winning performance is the main talking point
