Match Analysis: India Won the the match by batting first. Unlike last match, Openers started a bang. Especially Rohit looked great from ball 1. He tried to increase the pace of the innings by targeting the bowlers which is a good sign. On the other hand, Rahul didnt look comfortable once again. He need to step up and should get into his comfortable zone before India play semis.

Once the openers are done, Nothing much to talk about Virat as he is one of the best batsman in the world and playing like that in the WC. Rishab Pant looks fine and he is scoring at a good pace. He will keep his 4th position for the rest of the WC. Hardik is in good form but failed in this match with out scoring any. This is the point which needs to be look at by Indian Management team. what if Hardik fails on a particular day. who will take that aggressor role?. Dhoni at this phase, we cant expect a big storm innings from him. He will keep wickets intact and play a anchor role and make sure India reach good score. Then who will take that aggressor role if Hardik fails. Jadhav didnt look in form, Its too early to speak on Karthik as well. who will take that?

Along with that if India go with 5 bowlers, Virat will not have option to change the bowling if one of the bowler goes for runs as there is no part time bowler in the final XI. Without Jadhav, all 5 bowlers have to bowl 10 overs irrespective of the form on that day which can cost Indian team. It happened yesterday as Shami is going for runs but he has to complete his 10 overs. Yesterday it was 36 runs in 18 balls where shami has to bowl one in that. He already conceded 17 runs in his previous over. As Bumrah wrapped the innings, there is no need to bowl and that last two can swing the result in any way. If there is 6th optional bowler, virat will have that cushion to change bowlers.

In the next match, it will be good if Jadeja gets a chance as he gives a genuine bowling option and a good hitter at the end. If we see all the matches in this WC, the 7th batsman didn’t get much balls to face and his only situation is to hit runs from ball 1. For this Jadeja will be good and have an added advantage of bowling.

Lets get to the Match:

Stats:

Batting/Bowling stats

Virat won the toss and elected to bat first.

First time in this WC, Kohli made changes to the team other than forced changes due to injuries. Bhuvi and Dinesh Karthik came in. Jadhav and Kuldeep sits out. It’s a big challenge to keep Kuldeep out. Kohli went with 3 genuine seamers, one spinner and Hardik as a 5th bowler. It’s a good choice with shorter boundaries on one side and on a flat pitch.

Rohit started well with a six in the first over. Rahul on the other side didn’t look comfortable and this was the major issue for India once Dhawan ruled out with injury. Rohit and Dhawan start the innings with a good run rate and always both players strike the ball well. After Dhawan left, Rahul is not able to start the innings well. He is taking too many dot balls in the beginning to start the innings which increases the pressure on Rohit. By end of 5th over, Rahul faced 17 balls and just scored 8 runs.

In the 5th over, Rohit went for a pull short and it was straight to Tamim. All Indian Tv’s went on mute when the ball is in air but at the end, Tamim dropped it and its a huge relief. It was a great chance for Bangladesh which could have changed the game in their way in first 5 overs. After that, Rohit didn’t look back and started to hit big in every over. At the end of 10th over they scored 69 without a wicket.

Rohit took the role of aggressor as Rahul is on a slow pace. Rohit reached his half century in 15th over and looking good enough to reach a big score. Rohit and Rahul partnership went onto 100 runs in 18th over.

In 29th over, Rohit reached his 5th hundred in this tournament and became the highest run getter in WC as of today. In the next over, Rohit tried for a drive and gave a simple catch to Liton Das. A terrific display of cricket came to an end along with a good opening partnership.

Virat walked in and in 33rd over, Rahul got out to Rubel Hossain. It was not a smooth innings by Rahul as he scored 77 runs of 92 balls with 83 strike rate. But the runs may have given him the confidence to play big in coming matches. Pant walked in and started to play positively.

Kohli and Pant looked good and scored 42 runs between them before a big blow to India in the form of Virat Kohli wicket. In 39th over, Mustafizur came into attack and picked important Virat’s wicket in the second ball of the over. And he missed out on his 6th half century in WC. Pandya walked in but this time it was Mustafizur who won the battle as Pandya gave a simple catch to slip and departed without opening his account.

MSD walked with a lot of comments about his batting but as always, he has to play a crucial innings to reach to a good competitive score. Pant on the other hand batted beautifully and looks like he confirmed his place at 4th even after Dhawan walks in and can be a big competitor to Rahul. He belted 3 fours in 40th over and India moved into last 10 overs with 251 runs with 6 wickets in hand (more than 6 wickets, its one proper batsman and Bhuvi are to follow). Pant got out in 45th over and just missed his first half century of WC. He batted brilliantly and he proved why most seniors ask him in final XI.

Dhoni as always played a sensible innings as he knows what will happen once his wicket fell down. Karthik didn’t get much time to play an innings and he got out for 8 runs. Dhoni on the other end kept on hitting boundaries along with keeping his wicket and scored 35 of 33 balls when he got out in 50th over when he tried for a big shot. As soon as he is out, India ended innings with two more wickets.

This is why he always plays an innings where he keeps his wicket and try to play big in the last moment. 8 out of 10 times, it works and 2 times it will go other way. Always he comes in a position where there is no batsman to follow him or a lot overs to complete when there is no batsman to follow. Either of the situation, he has to play cautiously to keep his wicket and to score runs. At times, it fails but most of the times, it gives what Indian team wants. If he comes in 4th down and if he plays like that, its not good but we have to see when he comes and which batsman to follow him and what is the situation.

If we don’t want him to play like that, send him up the order and ask him to play a quick innings as batsmen are to follow. If he fails at the top of the order, then we can comment on him but not when he comes in important situation.

Rohit on the other hand played a match winning innings and once again the top order won the match in the first half.  Rohit is so crucial at the top as he wins matches with single hand. He is the top run getter in WC as of today.

Second Innings. As Bhuvi is back in the team, Bhuvi and Bumrah opened the bowling and as usual the beauty of these two is they restrict the opponents to the low score in first 5 to 10 overs which puts them under a lot of pressure. Both the bowlers bowled beautifully and gave just 28 runs in 7 overs. Virat changed the bowling after 7th as he wants to keep Bumrah for the final overs. Shami started his spell along with Bhuvi and gave the first break in 10th over. Tamim Iqbal got out to an inside edge after scoring 22 runs. The dangerous Shakib Al Hassan came out. He is in superb form in this WC and can be a dangerous batsman

In the 15th over , when Shakib and Soumya Sarkar partnership is going to become a dangerous one, Pandya got the breakthrough and got the wicket of Soumya Sarkar. Mushfiqur Rahman walked in and with two senior players in the middle, this partnership can win the game for them and they started their partnership well and started scoring at a good pace They kept the required run rate in control.

Chahal the lone spinner gave the important breakthrough in 23rd over when Mushfiqur Rahman tried to sweep and gave catch to Shami. With this wicket, it looks tough for Bangladesh but with Shakib on the other end, still the hopes are alive. In 30th over, Pandya took his second wicket in the form of Liton Das and Bangladesh were 163 for 4 at the end of 30th over. Bumrah back into the attack and got Hossain wicket. Pandya who failed with bat in the first innings, but he bowled beautifully and picked his 3rd and most important wicket of Shakib Al Hassan in 34th over with a slow ball.

With Shakib Al Hassan’s wicket, everyone thought it was curtains down for Bangladesh’s win but Saiffuddin and Sabbir Rahman played beautifully and played big. They kept on hitting boundaries in every over and took the match till 42nd over with 70 required of 42 balls. Bumrah once again came into the attack when India needed a wicket and he delivered it with a slow ball this time in 44th over. The dangerous looking Sabbir Rahman got out for a well made 36 of 55 balls. The captain Mortaza strikes big in 45th over when he faced Bhuvi. He smashed the ball to six and the next ball he tries to smash it again, but this time it was a slow ball and gave a catch to MSD.

Saiffuddin is playing a lone innings and he played so bravely that Bangladesh just need 36 runs in 3 overs. Bumrah came to bowl his last over of the innings and he bowled a brilliant yorker to get rid of Rubel Hossain in the 5th ball and he bowled a perfect yorker to get rid of Mustafizur Rahman in the very next ball. India won by 28 runs and became the second team to reach Semis with one match to spare
